Ada County DUI Attorney: Courthouse Logistics, Calendars, and a Step-By-Step Defense
If you were arrested anywhere in Ada County—Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Star—your case runs through the Ada County Magistrate Court in downtown Boise. This page is your one-stop guide to what happens and when.
The courthouse, parking, and security
-
Location: Ada County Courthouse, downtown Boise.
-
Security: You'll pass through metal detectors; prohibited items are not allowed - this includes knives, guns and other weapons, but also includes ceramic mugs or tumblers. So, if you bring coffee to court, make sure it's in a metal or plastic travel mug.
-
Parking: Expect paid parking after a short grace period—bring a card or cash and arrive early. The best place to park is right across the Courthouse on 2nd or Broad streets. There is often a free spot on the street there that will allow you easy access to the Courthouse. It's only $1.00 for over an hour and you should be able to get in and out in that time. If there's no parking on the street, you can park in the courthouse parking lot or garage with an entrance just to the East of the Courthouse itself. That is free for the first hour and $1.00 every hour after that. The parking lot fills up fast and the garage is often over-full as well, so we recommend trying for street parking first.
Remote appearances & daily calendars
The court frequently supports remote video appearances for routine hearings. Daily schedules are posted—ask us to verify whether your hearing is in-person or remote and to send you the correct link and instructions.
Two tracks: criminal case vs. driver's license
Track 1 — Criminal case in Magistrate Court
-
Arraignment: We enter a plea, address release terms, and schedule the next date.
-
Discovery: We request police video, breath-testing records, operator permits, and lab data for blood draws.
-
Motions: Suppression challenges often focus on stop, detention length, field tests, and the reliability of breath/blood results.
-
Resolution: Trial, dismissal, reduction, or a negotiated outcome—your goals drive the strategy.
Track 2 — Administrative License Suspension (ALS)
-
If you failed evidentiary testing, the Department moves to suspend your license quickly.
-
You have a short deadline (about seven days) to request a hearing—this is separate from court.
-
We prepare the hearing with the evidence the officer and the device/lab actually generate—not just the police narrative.
-
Even if a suspension begins, we may help position you for restricted driving as soon as allowed.
